A Journey of Passion, Perseverance, and Flavor

How Queen of Lumpia Came to Be

It all started when I was teenager, with a close friend who was Filipino. She would occasionally bring lumpia to school, and that was the moment I fell in love with this incredible dish. Before then, I had never heard of it, but I knew right away that I loved the taste. It was similar to an eggroll but smaller, crispier and packed with so much flavor. I couldn’t get enough.

Curious about this new food, I asked my friend to teach me more about it. She shared the history behind lumpia—it's a dish served in the Philippines to symbolize new beginnings. I was fascinated by the story and the tradition tied to it. From then on, I made it my mission to learn how to make lumpia. Over the years, I experimented with recipes and shared my creations with family and friends, who also became just as smitten with it as I was.

In 2020, my husband and I took a leap of faith. We decided to turn my passion for lumpia into a catering business. But like so many others we were hit by the challenges of Covid -19 pandemic. The timing couldn’t have been worse, and it delayed our plans. But we didn’t give up. As restrictions began to ease, we jumped at the opportunity to participate in pop-up events, where we could finally showcase our lumpia to the world.

That’s when we knew we had something special. People loved it-they craved it! And that moment marked our breakthrough. The joy and satisfaction we saw from our customers fueled us to keep going.

Looking ahead, our vision is simple: we want to share our lumpia with everyone. We believe this dish brings people together, just as it did for me years ago, and we hope to spread that joy far and wide.

Cultural Connection

As a young black girl growing up in Oakland, CA, I learned early on that Filipino food and Soul Food in the African American community are deeply rooted in shared histories, values, and the roles food plays in bonding communities. While Filipino cuisine and Soul Food each have unique origins, both are marked by resilience, the passing down of recipes through generations, and a strong connection to family, celebrations, and cultural identity.
