What Is Lumpia? Everything You Need to Know About This Crispy Filipino Favorite

What is lumpia? Lumpia is a beloved Filipino dish known for its thin, crispy wrapper and flavorful filling. Often compared to a spring roll, lumpia can be filled with seasoned meats, vegetables, seafood, cheese, or even sweet ingredients, then carefully rolled and cooked until beautifully golden and crisp.

Lumpia has long been a favorite at Filipino family gatherings, celebrations, parties, and special occasions. But today, this versatile appetizer has gone far beyond the traditional versions many people grew up enjoying. Creative fillings and unexpected flavor combinations have turned lumpia into an appetizer with almost endless possibilities.

At Queen of Lumpia, we celebrate that versatility. We take inspiration from traditional lumpia while creating our own distinctive flavors using fresh ingredients and bold combinations. From savory classics to seafood, cheesy favorites, and dessert-inspired varieties, each flavor offers a different way to experience lumpia.

For us, lumpia isn't simply something to eat—it’s something to share, discover, and enjoy.

What Makes Lumpia Unique?

Lumpia is a Filipino-style spring roll made with a thin, delicate wrapper that becomes wonderfully crisp when fried. While there are many varieties of lumpia, one of the most popular is Lumpia Shanghai, traditionally filled with a savory mixture of ground meat, vegetables, and seasonings.

What makes lumpia so special is its versatility. That thin, crispy wrapper creates the perfect base for all kinds of delicious fillings—from traditional savory combinations to modern, creative flavors.

That versatility is part of what inspired us at Queen of Lumpia. We took the familiar crispy lumpia people know and love and began creating our own unique combinations. Our menu has grown to include flavors such as Garlic Turkey, Firecracker Shrimp Ginger Pork with Kale, Chicken Jalapeño, Smoked Cheeseburger, Crab Rangoon, , Veggie Delight and Peach Cobbler, a dessert-inspired lumpia.

And, of course, a great lumpia deserves a great dipping sauce. That's why we've also created signature sauces designed to complement those crispy, flavorful bites.

What Makes Queen of Lumpia Different?

Queen of Lumpia began in 2020, during a time when the world—and our family—was experiencing a lot of change. My husband and I took our love of good food, family, and bringing people together and turned it into something we could share with our community.

From the beginning, we wanted to do more than make traditional lumpia. We saw that the crispy lumpia wrapper could become a canvas for creativity. So, while respecting the Filipino inspiration behind lumpia, we began developing our own unique flavors and combinations.

Today, Queen of Lumpia is known for hand-rolled lumpia made with fresh ingredients and flavors that might surprise you—from savory favorites like Garlic Turkey and Ginger Pork with Kale to creative combinations like Crab Rangoon, Chicken Jalapeño, Smoked Cheeseburger, and Cajun Shrimp.

And we didn't stop at savory lumpia. We even brought dessert to the party with flavors like Peach Cobbler and Dutch Apple Pie.

Our goal is simple: take something people already love and give them a delicious new way to experience it.

It's All About the Sauce

A crispy, flavorful lumpia is delicious on its own—but the right dipping sauce can take it to another level.

At Queen of Lumpia, we love experimenting with different flavor pairings. Sweet, savory, tangy, creamy, or buttery, each sauce brings something different to the experience.

Our dipping sauce selections include favorites such as Sweet Chili, Ranch, BBQ, Garlic Vinegar Soy Sauce, Teriyaki, and two of our signature creations—Queen's Remoulade Sauce and Queen's Garlic Butter Sauce.

Queen's Remoulade brings a bold, creamy flavor that pairs especially well with seafood-inspired lumpia like Crab Rangoon and Cajun Shrimp. Queen's Garlic Butter Sauce offers a rich, savory flavor with a touch of soy and oyster sauce, making it a delicious complement to a variety of appetizers.

Because sometimes the lumpia is only half the fun.

The perfect dip makes the bite complete.
